I just read an article on the upcoming FCC decision on phone number portability. I thought this plan was only for cell phones, but it’s not. It will allow people to drop their land lines and transfer those numbers to a cell phone. Seems to me that the cell companies should be happy about that. I’ll be the first one in line to dump my land line if this goes through. There has to be an investment (or shorting) play here. I know the baby bells were hurting last quarter b/c people were switching to cell phones. (They were negatively impacted by people switching to cable modems too — No more second phone lines for the old-school modems.) That trend can only get worse for them.
