My *%&$#@* Cable Company!

As I mentioned last month when talking about phone number portability, I’d love to ditch my home phone line and just use my cellphone exclusively. The one thing that stops me from doing that is that I need a back-up internet connection in case my cable modem connection goes down while I’m trading. Right now is one of those times. This seems to happen at least twice a month, and always at the open or close of trading – busiest times of the day. What really irks me about these outages is that they are often due to the cable company doing maintenance. I have no problem with that, if they’d at least let people know ahead of time so we could plan for the service interruption. Or, even better, do that type of disruptive service in the middle of the night! Imagine if your local telephone company operated in that fashion. I guess my cable company doesn’t realize that people are relying on their internet connections for business purposes.
