Once again I come into my office and see blinking lights on my cable modem. This is really getting old! My connection had been extremely reliable for a long stretch, so long that I decided to dump my land line (and my backup ISP).
I guess I’ll have to rejoin the old school and get my land line reactivated. Too bad I can’t get DSL at my house. How long until WiMax is available???
I guess I’ll commute (gasp) to my local wifi spot so I can at least watch the first hour of trading.

P.S. Google has granted me 2 more GMail invitations. If you want one let me know.

Sorry to hear about your cable connection. I too am having issue with my ISP Charter Communications. I’ve been getting 2M/256K for $39.99 and now they are changing their offerings to 384K/128K for $39.99 and 3M/256K for $49.99 and say they will downgrade my service to the slower speed unless I call them and change to the faster speed for more money. Interestingly, I’m currently getting the faster speed now. They said this will take effect Jan 1, 2005.
Anyway, I too wish I had an alternative like DSL here. I posted some remarks at my blog about the accountability of these cable companies and their little monopolies. Check it out at http://www.kriscarlson.org/.
Have a Great Day!
Mike: I am just now seeing this and have a suggestion. I have had comcast for over 4 years and your problem is familiar to me. However in my case it is only a minor inconvienience. Try powering down your cable modem completely and letting it run through the powerup diagnostics. Generally I have found that I may have to power it down once or twice before it can get back on the network. In Chicago where I am the cable speed is 3 to 4 times DSL so I don’t even consider anything else. When I come in my office in the morning and this has happened, it usually takes me 10 to 15 minutes to get back on.
Hang in there. Holla

I appreciate the suggestion but I always do the ‘modem restart’ thing before calling Comcast. As usual the problem was on their end. There was an outage in several areas that morning.
