A couple of people have asked me where my site is now hosted. The site is now hosted by DreamHost. I know several other bloggers who’ve been with DreamHost for over a year and have been very happy with them. I was pretty happy with my old host, despite them suspending my account because of the comment spam issues, but I was beginning to bump up against the 20 GB/month bandwidth limit for my account. So I would have had to upgrade to a different plan which was more expensive than, and offered less than, the DreamHost plan I’d been watching for so long.
A huge selling point of DreamHost is that they have some very generous plans at great prices. In fact, they’re so cheap that I’d be skeptical of their quality/reliability if I hadn’t already heard so many good things about them. I signed up for DreamHost’s plan that gives me 120 GB of bandwith per month and 2.4 GB of disk space. The cost of that plan is $7.95/month. That compares very favorably to the $5/month I was paying to my old host for 20 GB of bandwith and 800 MB of disk space. What’s even better is that DreamHost had a special when I signed up that tripled my bandwidth and disk space for free. But where I messed up was when I saw the ‘coupon code’ field in the sign-up form. I considered doing a Google search for a coupon code but I figured “how much cheaper could it get?” Silly me, I soon discovered that they have a coupon code that drops the price to $0.77/ month ($9.24 for the year!) for the first year. So if you’re considering moving your site or starting on you should really consider hosting with DreamHost. (And don’t forget to enter the coupon code!)
Update: It looks like the ‘seven, seven, seven’ code has expired. You may use the coupon code TM70 to save $70 off of most hosting plans. (Or save $30, $40 or $50 off of the Monthly L1, L2 and L3 plans, respectively)
