Trade-Ideas Pro Usage Tips

It's come to my attention that some newer Trade-Ideas users don't know about Trade-Ideas Pro, the version that you download and run on your PC (Get a Free Trial):

Trade-Ideas Pro is a front end for Trade-Ideas data which is specifically designed for the power user who demands more than the web based font end can offer. Trade-Ideas Pro offers the same massive statistical analysis from the Trade-Ideas data center, in a tighter package. As a traditional MS Windows application, Trade-Ideas Pro has the look and feel you're already using.

For more info on Pro see the Trade-Ideas Pro users guide and the video help for Trade-Ideas Pro.

Here are some usage tips:

  • A common complaint about Trade-Ideas is that it produces an overwhelming number of alerts. The key to reducing the number of alerts is to only track the alerts that you really care about and to set your filters properly. The volume filters usually do the trick for me. I change "Min Current Volume" to see more or fewer alerts.
  • You can backtest your configuration. Right-click and then click on "History > Time Frame". It will show you what alerts fired for your selected time frame.
  • You can use "collaborate" from the right-click menu to load / save / share configurations.
  • You can have multiple alert windows open (File > New Alert Window). So you could have one for bullish alerts and one for bearish alerts. Or one that scans the entire market for high volume movers and one that only scans for certain alerts against stocks on your watchlist(s).
  • You can create symbol lists (watch lists) to run alerts against (Tools > Symbol lists)
  • You can configure Trade-Ideas to load a ticker into another application when you double-click. For example, I set mine to load the clicked ticker into CyberTrader. That way I can quickly see the chart(s) without having to worry about typos. (Tools > External Linking)
  • You can have each alert window play a different sound. (Right-click on an alert window, then select "Actions")

Quoted

"One evening, while having dinner with a fundamentalist, I accidentally knocked a sharp knife off the edge of the table. He watched the knife twirl through the air, as it came to rest with the pointed end sticking into his shoe. "Why didn't you move your foot?" I exclaimed. "I was waiting for it to come back up," he replied." ~ Ed Seykota
