Is Day Trading Dead?

I just read an interesting article which makes the case that day trading is dead. For well over a year (and probably back to when the housing bubble burst and the SEC banned short-selling, if not earlier) the market has felt *different* to me. I’m not sure exactly what has changed. Recently I’ve been telling people that I think it’s a combination of things — that “we” (U.S. equity markets) now seem to follow other global markets instead of leading, high frequency trading (aka “battle bots” as Dr. Duru and I like to call them) and/or stocks feeling/acting illiquid. Certain types of days (days that trend for hours, not just a quick pop then sideways) have always been better for the way I like to trade but they seem to be fewer and further between these days. I’ve also considered the possibility that perhaps it’s just me but that ‘day trading is dead’ article makes me think that I’m not alone in thinking that *something* is different.
